Last quarter results came as no surprise to many other than eBay with income down 31%, Sales down 7% for the first time in 10 years, Christmas sales down 4% when it was expected they would rise due to buyers looking for bargains on eBay. EBay put on a brave face and blamed the economic crisis though one buyer commented that, "there are no longer bargains on eBay due to the increased costs to sellers." Many of eBay acquisitions are also failing to make up the losses other than PayPal who eBay are looking to in the hope of making up the shortfall. Many buyers are unhappy with the fixed price sales and lack of auctions and are going elsewhere, it is estimates that eBay have lost 1.5 million customers due to the changes and driving out the smaller businesses. In the hope of recovering the situation eBay are offering a free listing on all items of 99p or less with an increased commission on sales of 10%. You do not mind being stitched if you are making a profit but eBay appears to go in for mugging the seller.
